Silver and Hazel

                                                       Silver and Hazel

A tale of a prince and princess

Forced to Wound, Destined to Love

Part One: Silver

Every slash of my sword is like a dance of the blade. I feel free yet in control, and I feel pride swelling in my chest with every shuffle of  my feet, every pang against the hard metal of his knife. I feel adrenaline pumping through my veins. It's a sweet kind of addiction, this trial.

Sweet, until my fingers are stained in crimson.

His blood.

I wounded him. Pierced him with my lethal blade.

And yet he doesn't stop.

His silver eyes flash in every swipe, sometimes going over my skin to check for wounds, never bothering to look at his own.

And that's the sad part.

Those silver eyes. Those beautiful, silver eyes.

How can something so empty hold so much beauty?

And then, not for the first time, I want to be the one who cleans his wounds. I want to stay by his side until they heal. Until they seal themselves closed and stop bleeding over each other. I want to be his.

Part Two: Hazel

My blade brushes her shoulder. Once. Twice. And she doesn't even flinch.

It's only when the sharp edge meets the skin on her left arm. She flinches against the pain, her eyelashes fluttering closed. She steps back. One. Two. Three. Four. I count each time her foot moves long before I notice what I'm doing. It's crazy how I catch everything.

Or rather, how she manages to catch my eye each time she does it.

And suddenly, she's fighting back tears.

Her eyes shimmer with pearly water.

Those eyes. Those beautiful, hazel eyes. Her sun-kissed pupils.

I never to be the reason why they teared up. I never wanted to see sadness leak out of those pretty, pretty eyes.

And suddenly, not for the first time, I want to be the one wiping her tears. I want to be the one who frames her dimples in love, smothers her eyes in joy. I want to hold her when she shakes. I want to be the shoulder she sobs on.

I want to be the one lighting up those pretty, hazel pupils of hers.
